DRDO Successfully Tests Hypersonic Technology Demonstrator Vehicle .

So what is it ? Has India invented any new missiles ?

India didn't invented any new missiles but went one step further in discovering Hypersonic Missile . It is expected that India will have the Made in India Hypersonic Missile in Four to Five years after this test. This is a very important step for Indian Defence. 

Some important countries around the world such as - USA , RUSSIA , CHINA and FRANCE are all trying to build Hypersonic Missile as soon as possible . After this successful Hypersonic Demonstrator Vehicle Test , India took a step forward in this competition . 

Cruise Missile

These missiles have a range of 7000km , 10000 km . However , Most Cruise Missile have a range of 1000km or less.

These Missiles are capable of Carrying out large-scale attack with great speed and precision in their small range . Many times Rader or Air Defence System fail to intercept Cruise Missiles . 

Depending upon the speed such Missiles are classified as : 

1. Subsonic Cruise Missile

   2. Supersonic cruise Missile

    3. Hypersonic Cruise Missile

Subsonic Cruise Missile :

Subsonic Cruise Missile flies at a Speed lesser than that of Sound . It travels at a Speed of around 0.8 Mach . 

The well known Subsonic Missile is the American Tomahawk Cruise Missile . Some other examples are : Harpoon Of USA , Nirbhay Of INDIA and Exocet Of FRANCE .

Supersonic Cruise Missile :

Supersonic cruise Missile speed of around 2-3 Mach i.e. it travels a km approximately in a second.

Example : Brah Mos ( 290-500) Km - India/ Russia - Fastest Supersonic Cruise Missile and the only one to Complete the Tactical Cruise Missile trial ( i.e. Fire from - Land , Air , Sea ..all of them ) 

AGM-69 SRAM ( 200km) , USA 

After Supersonic Cruise Missile , the whole world wants to build more fast Missile that will not be noticed by the Air Defense System or Radar . 

Example : Best Air Defence System In present - S400 , RUSSIA 

Hypersonic Cruise Missile :

Hypersonic Cruise Missile would travel at least Five time the speed of sound or more than 5-7 Mach .

Example : 3M 22 Zircon , Russia Hypersonic Anti-ship Cruise Missile . 

India wants to bulid Individual Hypersonic Missile that will be Made in India .

An important point of this test is - HSTDV ( Hypersonic Test Demonstrator Vehicle )

HSTDV :

It is an aircraft for Hypersonic Speed flight . It is being developed as a carrier vehicle for Hypersonic and Long range Cruise Missile . 

Only the USA , Russia , China have developed technologies to field fast manufacturing Hypersonic Missiles that fly at lower altitudes and are extremely hard to track and intercept vehicle . 

This Hypersonic Demonstrator uses a Scramjet Engine . 

Ramjet Technology has been used in all the Missile that India has built so far . The speed limit of Ramjet Engine is below 5 Mach . That is why India needs to build a Made in India Scramjet Engine of carring Hypersonic Missile. 

So recently India has successfully tested the Scramjet Engine . 

India took first step towards the developing a new class of Ultra- modern weapons that can travel 6 times faster than the speed of sound ( 6Mach) and penetrate any Missile defence with the Defence Research and Development Organization ( DRDO) carring out a successful flight test of the Hypersonic Technology Demonstrator Vehicle ( HSTDV) for the first time from a launch facility off the Odisha Coast  . 

Mach 6 = 7,408 kmph
